Crop Insurance Education CalendarSales Closing Dates for Crop Insurance Products in Early 2009 A number of important deadlines for purchasing crop insurance occur in early 2009: Adjusted Gross Revenue (February 2), Onions (February 2), Spring Planted Field Crops (March 16) and Adjusted Gross Revenue-Lite (March 16). These regular features of the crop insurance calendar make the early months of the new year an especially opportune time for producers to review their risk management planning in consultation with their crop insurance agent or FSA representative. To assist in that process, the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets, working closely with the USDA Risk Management Agency, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Farm Service Agency and other partners, is organizing a series of winter workshops devoted this year primarily to insurance products for spring planted field crops. There will also be opportunities for vegetable and diversified growers to learn more about the crop insurance products available to them All presentations will review the new requirements for disaster payment eligibility in the 2008 Farm Bill. An FSA representative will be present at most scheduled meetings and, for some presentations, FSA borrower credits will be available. Sessions designed for corn and soybean growers will review the benefits farmers directly received in 2008 from Crop Coverage (CRC) revenue protection from reduced yields as well as the decline in the fall market price in those commodities. Potentially significant benefits available in 2009 to corn and soybean produces with CRC will be discussed as well. Meeting Schedule for Spring Planted Fields Crops and Other Crop Insurance Tools Note: This schedule is in formation and will be revised and amended weekly throughout the month of December. Questions about upcoming events can be directed to Christopher Reed, NY Crop Insurance Education Program, at 518-485-8935.
